Colorado-Trane-Air-Conditioning-Heating_Installation-RepairI often get asked how long should a new furnace last? The answer is somewhat subjective but if a person performs regular furnace service it will maximize their heater’s life expectancy. The most important issues of life expectancy include proper furnace installation. While one may get a ‘good deal’
these often come at the expense of long lasting efficient performance.

Another factor is dirt. It is the enemy and will shorten your heater’s life more than all other factors. It should be a simple process, but changing your furnace filter should occur on a monthly basis or the equivalent. Of course this is only during the heating season, but if you have air conditioning it is doubly important to keep your equipment clean.

I recommend getting the best filter with the least resistance available. This will rarely be the most expensive one on the shelf because they tend to create friction loss and that is one problem dirty filters create in the first place. If you truly want the best performance from your furnace/air conditioning the best available filter will be electronic and your Trane or American Standard dealer has the best filter money can buy. This filter will remove almost anything that gets into your system even down to germ level or even smoke particles, they work so well. And they do not cause a great deal of resistance on your furnaces air supply.

Remember that your air is recirculated over and over and the cleaner the air you breath is the better chance you have of staying healthy.
